Most Key Largo reefs sit inside the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, and a dive flag is required for all diving and snorkeling. Sanctuary Preservation Areas such as Molasses, French, the Elbow, Carysfort and Key Largo Dry Rocks are no-take zones where touching or standing on coral is prohibited. Boats must use mooring buoys instead of anchoring on coral and keep to idle speed within 300 feet of a dive flag.
